As I reflect on my son’s life, I remember how happy he made me. Despite having congenital heart disease, he was always a happy little boy. His precious smile could light up a room and his laughter warmed my heart. His love for life continues to inspire me to be the best mother I can be even in his absence. I thank God for his life every day of my life. He is the best gift that God has ever given me other than my loving husband. I love him with all of my heart.
Before my child went to be with Jesus, he left me a token of his love. He left me a big beautiful smile. When his smile appeared, I knew in my heart that he was in the arms of Jesus Christ. His smile brought tears to my eyes along with great comfort. It showed me what love truly means.
When my son was born, my husband and I placed a beautiful cross on the wall in his room so that he could learn about the love of Jesus Christ. In the middle of the cross is a red heart that is a symbol of Christ’s love. This heart represents the greatest love that I have ever known, Jesus’ love for me. The Bible says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Jesus died on the cross and gave his life for me. Jesus is the only one who has ever loved me enough to die for me.
In my grief, I remember that Jesus loves me even when I feel all alone, isolated, and broken. Sometimes, when the grief is too much to bear and I feel weak, I look at videos of my son who loved to sing “Jesus Loves Me.” His sweet voice reminds me that Jesus still loves me. The video below shows my son singing this song.
One lesson that I can take away from this story is to love the Lord because He first loved me. As Jesus showed His love for me on the cross, may I show my love for Him by devoting my life to serving Him.
